Morning Philosophy

“Si vis pacem, para bellum. (If you wish for peace, prepare for war.)”

— Publius Flavius Vegetius Renatus, De Re Militari

Vegetius wasn't glorifying conflict but naming a hard truth about deterrence: strength, discipline, and preparation are what preserve peace, not wishful thinking. For a future officer or statesman, this means today's drills, readings, and small disciplines are not separate from your ideals—they are the foundation that makes those ideals defensible. Readiness is itself a form of responsibility to those you'll one day lead or protect.

Question for the DayWhat am I preparing for right now that I'd rather avoid, and what does that avoidance cost me?

Daily Leadership Lesson

A leader who waits for the perfect plan before acting teaches the team that paralysis is safer than progress, when speed of adaptation often matters more than precision of the initial plan.

Today, set a deadline for the next decision you're overanalyzing and act on the best available information rather than waiting for certainty.

“I think that I had really showed my dominance in arguing and studying for things that I love doing when I did the SFFA case. I began asking questions and nobody knew the answer to them and so they all resorted to just calling the questions dumb expect for a select few. They love to make fun of the questions and work I put into this stuff but then beg me for the information so they don’t have to do any work and I’m tired of that shit. I didn’t however stick to my meal plan very well so I’ll be paying for it with a 400 cal. Defict tomorrow to make up for it, so no breakfast. I am getting better at typing faster and making these move faster. Some days, especially those when they were very uneventful I don’t want to spend much more than 5 minutes an entry. Just one things to wrap my day up and review the things that I did well, I didn’t get done, and the things I will have to get done tomorrow. For the most part I did good today and I am becoming a better wrestler. I’m going to continue to practice that stuff and compete for spots of become better. I’m also going to work to make my diet better because I want to start losing this weight a little faster. I want to be down to 180-185 in…”
