Morning Philosophy

“You have power over your mind — not outside events. Realize this, and you will find strength.”

— Marcus Aurelius, Meditations

Begin the day by separating what is yours to govern from what is not. Spend your effort only on the former, and the rest loses its grip on you.

Question for the DayWhat am I spending energy on today that isn't actually mine to control?

Daily Leadership Lesson

A leader who checks for understanding by asking people to explain it back catches confusion before it becomes a mistake.

After giving tomorrow's briefing, have each team lead repeat the plan in their own words before dismissing them.

Journal Memory

You reflected on a day that started uneventfully but turned into a meditation on mental toughness, recalling past 'cookie jar' moments of pushing past perceived limits and connecting them to a proud moment of pushing through a run that day.

“I remember when I ran a 21 minute 5k once and that was one of the hardest things I had done. Heart rate near 220bpm. I then did that mile completely untrained and got a 6:54 which was very good for me. I was only thinking about how Goggins did 404 laps around a track and how I could do 4. I know that I’m going to continue to work toward that. Even my little victory of today with me running 2 miles pushed myself and felt proud of it. I kept wanting to quit and my “governor” told me that it was all I had and that I couldn’t continue but I didn’t care I kept pushing past that because I knew that my true limit was much higher that my mind was looking for the easy way out and that I had only really used 40-50% of my true max.”
